FAQs

Question #1: How much does it cost to participate in Coffee and Conversations?

Answer: Nothing. Coffee and Conversations is a community project for eligible Muslim singles and there is no fee to join nor to participate.

Question #2: How often do you host Coffee and Conversations events?

Answer: I host events whenever I am able to bring together a group of 10-12 singles for an authentic introduction. Since 2022, I’ve hosted 25 book discussion events, with about 200 Muslim singles participating.. This is *not* a book club, it is an invitation based community project for a one-time event that does not require a reoccurring commitment.

Question #3: Will you release the details of the other participants before the event?

Answer: No. I have found that Muslim singles appreciate opportunities to make their own first impressions, without biodata sheets and doctored headshots getting in the way. At a Coffee and Conversations event, our group meets up at a Northern Virginia coffee shop on a Saturday morning or afternoon. We talk casually while standing in line together to place our orders, we walk to a private meeting room together, we discuss a recently published great book, and we introduce ourselves in our own words. We learn more about each other in this small group gathering than a biodata sheet and a headshot could ever convey!

Question #4: What if I find someone I like at your event? What do I do?

Answer: I ask everyone who attends a Coffee and Conversations event to keep our environment dignified and respectful by engaging in group conversations only. After the event, I text every participant individually to name who they are open to following up with. If there is a mutual interest between the man and the woman, I help facilitate those follow up conversations directly. No one is asked, nor permitted, to approach a person directly nor to be alone with someone in the group event. The event is designed to facilitate group introductions. I remain present for the duration of the event as the hostess and facilitator.

Question #5: What is a premarital coach?

Answer: I help Muslim singles, men and women, navigate the premarital journey. I offer guidance on what to talk about in the early stages, where to go to have these conversations, how and when to get your family involved, how and when to pray istikara, and how to ‘break up’ if you realize that someone is not the right fit for you. I am comfortable jumping on a phone call to help you debrief after a complicated conversation, and I’ve been known to help singles strategize how to initiate complex conversations in the early stages. I’ve helped singles approach their families about intercultural marriage, blended families, and other unique considerations. And I’ve coached singles on how best to communicate their emotions, their boundaries, and their expectations during the premarital process. I offer my experience and wisdom as I help singles apply prophetic practices of the premarital process to a contemporary American Muslim context. My goal is to help you navigate the premarital journey in a manner that preserves your faith and your wellbeing, offering a strong foundation upon which to build a stable marriage.
